The first Sprinter celebrated its première in the spring of 1995. It was the first commercial van bearing the three-pointed star which had a name rather than plain number and letter codes. The only thing it adopted from its predecessor was the basic technical concept. Everything else was redesigned from the ground up. The combination of unibody design, high-traction rear-wheel drive, modern chassis with independent front suspension and powerful engines was unique at the time.
